Duplicates and intersections

Reliable models

The quality of the model is important for the reliability of the information exchange. Duplicates and intersections are important issues in order to gain certainty about the value of, for example, quantities.

Duplicates

A duplication occurs when the same object appears more than once in the same location and within the same aspect model. Duplications are never allowed, as this would render other analyses, such as quantity extraction and planning simulations, incorrect.

Intersections

In principle, intersections are not allowed if they affect coordination with other aspect models or constructability in practice. Discussions are very important in order to agree expectations about intersections with the parties involved. The number of acceptable intersections depends on the type of aspect model and, of course, on when information is shared.
